I'm nominating Illinois governor (for a few more minutes) Rod Blagojevich for the 'Stupidest Politician 2008' award.
Hard to believe that after we've all heard the taped conversations, he thinks nothing wrong was going on. Here's his attorney on the subject hours after FBI agents arrested him and he showed up in front of a federal magistrate in sweatpants, "He's extremely upbeat and very sad and disappointed that this occurred. He feels he didn't do anything wrong," Blagojevich's attorney, Sheldon Sorosky, told reporters Tuesday night. "He hopes the people of Illinois have faith in him because he will be vindicated."
Oy vey! Vindicated!??! Right. And I'm a pickle.
Like Spitzer, over the next few days the pressure will become too much and Blagojevich will have to resign. It's always hard to believe that people at this level can be in such a bubble that they can't read the writing on the wall.
When president-elect Obama joins the chorus, if you're not bright enough to recognize you're through, you shouldn't be serving in a public office anyway.
My take on Blagojevich? Pathetic.
